The udu (pronounced 'oodoo') is shaped from clay, gifting it with its highly characteristic percussive sound. Here, German percussion giants, Schlagwerk give their own rendition of an instrument that originated in Nigeria and is still played during ceremonies by the Igbo tribe. This highly unique instrument produces a surprising and rich sound.

The Schlagwerk U62 Udu

Played by striking the hole in the side of the body with the palm of your hand to displace the air inside the pot, a distinct and varied sound can be created. The body can also be tapped and the neck hole can also be used to change up the tonality so this udu can be played in many ways for a diverse percussive playing experience. The U62 Udu is 35cm long and has a 27cm diameter and has been finished with an eye-catching paint job.
